CPD is about keeping your knowledge and skills as a dental professional up to date. It is important to comply with GDC regulations and the CQC by keeping up to date with CPD.  This not only contributes to better patient care but ensures we have the tools we need to meet and maintain high professional standards.

The Enhanced CPD Scheme 2018 was introduced on 1 January 2018 for dentists and 1 August 2018 for dental care professionals (DCPs). Please see the GDC website regarding the rules for this scheme.

In summary:

• The need to have a personal development plan (PDP).
• An increase in the number of verifiable hours and the requirements to spread the hours across the five-year CPD cycle (100 hrs for dentists and 50 hrs for DCPs over 5 year cycle).
• The need to make an annual statement of CPD hours completed, even if you have not completed any CPD during the year (i.e. you need to make a zero hours statement).
• The need to align CPD activity with a GDC development or learning outcome(s).
• The need to plan CPD activity according to your field(s) of practice.

Walsall LDC committee agreed to provide e-learning CPD to Walsall GDP's and staff funded by LDC levy via the Guru258 platform, beginning 2020.

Guru258 have modules for essential CPD.

Courses available already on website:

• Dealing with medical emergencies and CPR training
• Equality and Diversity
• Information governance refresher course
• Information governance, DPO and more comprehensive training for practice managers and principals.
• Sepsis Update
• Legal and Ethical issues
• Safeguarding Level 2

Further courses will be available from April/May 2020 to ensure all your annual CPD is available from the Guru258 platform where you can store all your CPD certificates and PDP documents online.

These will include:

• Radiography Update
• Infection Control
• Oral Cancer Update
• Health and Safety within the Workplace (COSHH, RIDDOR, Fire Safety).

Walsall Dental practices can provide Guru258 with the following information in order for us to provide you and your staff with your login details and instructions.

• Practice name
• Contact details for the practice
• Number of staff members to register
• Staff names with GDC Number
